Light: Full sun
Water: Water daily right after transplanting, then reduce watering to allow root systems to develop deeply, prevent disease, and for sweeter flavored fruits. Water at the base of the plant, avoid getting water on foliage.
Hardiness: Summer crop, extremely frost intolerant, plant well after last chance of frost
Spacing: 1- 2' between plants, 2' between rows
Days to maturity: 75- 85
Soil notes: Rich garden soil, compost amendment beneficial, avoid fertilizing until roots systems are strongly established

Fruit: Medium- large, prominently ruffled, deep burgundy to purple-pink 

Notes: Indeterminate variety, require staking or trellising, and regular suckering. Known to be grown by Thomas Jefferson in the 1800s, thought to have origins in pre-Columbian Mexico.
