Culture notes: 3-5' H x 3' W Seashore Mallow is a lovely and large, herbaceous perennial endemic to salty, brackish, and almost fresh marshes and other wet habitats on the outer coastal plain from New York and Delaware to Florida and Texas. Prefers full sun but will take part shade doing well in average garden soil. It is late to emerge in spring but will grow full sized by July when many small (2-3″), delicate, hibiscus-like pink flowers begin to appear. Seeds germinate best when soaked in water for 24 hours, then planted in containers at 70+ degree or direct seed onsite in Mid-May or June, not allowing the soil to dry out.
