Culture notes: This annual plant was listed in the Bartram 1807 catalog. Historically grown for medicinal use, but bean-like seeds are incredibly poisonous if swallowed. Overall color is reddish purple, with interesting spiky flowers. Shoots to heights of 8’ in one growing season great for the back of the flower border.
